2 grand slams cap series finale for No. 11 Oregon baseball over Rhode Island

The series finale between Oregon and Rhode Island began with two grand slams.

At PK Park on Sunday afternoon, the No. 11 Ducks won 15-2 in seven innings thanks to six RBIs from Burke-Lee Mabeus and four from Anson Aroz, who cleared the bases.

After a nearly three-hour rain delay, Rhode Island (3-4) added a run in the third after scoring one on a bases-loaded walk in the first.

Mabeus’ two-run single gave Oregon (6-2) the lead in the first inning, and an RBI groundout made it 3-1.

It was 8-2 after Mabeus hit his grand slam in the fourth and Dominic Hellman added an RBI single in the second.

Jacob Walsh doubled two runs in the fifth inning after a balk brought in Jack Brooks with two outs.

The game ended when Aroz hit a grand slam with one out in the seventh.

In a no-decision, Will Sanford pitched 2.1 innings, gave up two runs on two hits, five walks, and a hit batter while striking out four batters. UO’s winning relief pitcher, Michael Meckna, gave up two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.

Oregon will play Columbia in a four-game series starting at 3 p.m. Friday to resume their 13-game homestand.
