More local schools are closing on Thursday due to an anticipated combination of snow and freezing rain.
Events at community centers and local groups have been canceled or rescheduled until the weather improves.
The literary arts did not wait for the rain to come. Author Masha Gessen’s sold-out Thursday night presentation at the nonprofit organization in Portland was rescheduled until May on Wednesday.
In a similar vein, the Oregon Humane Society declared on Wednesday that it would close its Community Veterinary Hospital as well as its shelters in Portland and Salem on Thursday.
“Our inclement weather crew of staff and volunteers will continue to provide excellent care and lots of love to all the shelter pets,” a spokesman wrote in the announcement.
Ahead of the anticipated freezing precipitation, a number of municipal courts, including those in Marion, Multnomah, and Washington counties, shuttered early Thursday morning.
For further area closures, see this list. The list is regularly updated. For the most recent details, return later.
