The Portland area is experiencing snowfall.Thursday, but Portland International Airport is operating largely normally as of right now.
Passengers checked into planes, waited in line at security, and unwinded in coffee shops despite the snow that was piling up on the highways leading into and out of PDX.
But everything could swiftly return to normal.
Due to the present or predicted weather, some airlines have canceled flights; according to PDX’s website, as of 11:00 a.m., 17 flights had been canceled and 39 had been delayed.
In an email to The Oregonian/OregonLive, Port of Portland spokesman Allison Ferre stated, “Our winter weather team at PDX is activated and has pre-treated pavement areas with anti-icing agents, including the runways and taxiways.” In an attempt to keep the airfield free, maintenance crews are prepared with plows and vehicles to apply extra de-icers in the event of snow accumulation or ice formation.
Ferre stated that while the majority of eateries and shops are open and taking orders, certain airport concessions are closed because of the bad weather.
None of the passengers interviewed by The Oregonian/OregonLive at the airport reported having their flights canceled. However, some were concerned about how the bad weather may affect their plans to travel later in the day.
To ensure she could make her afternoon flight, Linda Smith, who was traveling to Phoenix, claimed she had arrived at PDX at 9 a.m.
Her daughter, who lives in the Portland area, would pick her up if her flight was canceled, she said, although she was a little worried about that.
Scott Powell, 78, was also on his way to Phoenix, and the weather had nothing to do with the delay of his flight on Thursday morning. The airline informed him that it was due to a plane mechanical issue.
The snow was falling outside, but he seemed indifferent to it.
He added, “You have to roll with the punches.” Let’s wait and see whether it occurs.
