Following a collision that happened just before 11 a.m., a section of Interstate 84 is closed to traffic traveling west of Hood River.
According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, the pileup featured over 100 vehicles, including cars, trucks, and semitrucks. A much lower number was provided by the Oregon Department of Transportation, which stated that 20 to 30 cars collided in various collisions.
Authorities said one SUV caught fire.
At 12:39 p.m., the sheriff’s office posted on X, and everyone managed to exit the SUV. Responders are traveling by vehicle. Although there is yet no figure, there have been reports of injuries.
From Hood River to four miles west of Multnomah Falls, the collision has shut down the freeway’s westbound lanes. Lanes heading east are still open. The state government stated that there was no expected timing for the road’s reopening as of 2:00 p.m.
Road closures in eastern Oregon have also resulted from dangerous road conditions. Between La Grande and Baker City, both directions of I-84 are closed. Between Ontario and Baker City, the westbound lanes of the expressway are blocked.
