President Donald Trump’s massive efforts to cut the federal workforce, including critical jobs like dispatchers who manage the electric grid, would result in the loss of at least 600 employees at the Bonneville Power Administration, the major transmission grid operator in the region.
That amounts to over 20% of BPA’s 3,100 employees. Early retirement could result in more employees leaving. Furthermore, the agency is unable to hire replacement employees because it has implemented a hiring freeze in reaction to Trump’s executive orders.
