Head-on crash kills driver going wrong way on state highway in Marion County

On February 11, a two-vehicle collision on Marion County’s Oregon Route 22 claimed one life and hospitalized another.

Near milepost 40, Phillip Craig Tramontana, 72, of Idanha, was traveling west when he swung his Ford Ranger into the eastbound lane to try to pass a number of vehicles ahead of him. However, he was unable to get back into the westbound lane before running with Aidan Michael Sowder-Sinor’s white Subaru Outback.

At the scene, Tramontana was pronounced deceased. Logan, Utah resident Sowder-Sinor, 20, was transported to a hospital due to non-life-threatening injuries.

During the first Oregon State Police inquiry, the highway was stopped for almost two hours.
