Sled towed by ATV crashes into pole, killing Newberg High grad

A winter excursion that ended tragicallyThursday when a young woman struck a pole on an icy country road while riding a sled pulled by an ATV.

Authorities said that at approximately 3:20 p.m., Yamhill County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency personnel raced to the incident on Northeast Hagey Road outside Dundee.

Lily Vanderhoff, a recent Newberg High School graduate, was discovered dead at the site when they got there. The sled had carried the 18-year-old. There were also a number of additional current students in attendance.

Sheriff Sam Elliott said he would talk to the bereaved family later Friday, according to The Oregonian/OregonLive.

He noted that the probe is still under progress and will take some time to finish.

The goal of the Newberg-Dundee School District is to help the students in the area.
