The National Weather Service released an updated beach hazards statement for Oregon’s Central Coast, Clatsop County Coast, and Tillamook County Coast on Saturday at 1:28 p.m., which will be in force until Monday at 10 a.m.
We should expect “sneaker waves possible,” the weather agency said. “Keep pets and kids out of the surf area. Avoid the logs, rocks, and jetties close to the surf area. Do not swim in after someone who has been swept into the sea. Make a 911 call and wait for assistance to arrive.
“On a beach, particularly over rocks and jetties, waves might go up much farther than usual. According to the weather agency, sneaker waves have the potential to knock people off their feet and drag them into the icy ocean, where they could suffer severe injuries or drown. “Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.”
