Oregon State hires Mike Cavanaugh as offensive line coach, replacing Kyle DeVan

The Oregon State offensive line coach position was only open for one day, and the Beavers decided to bring in Mike Cavanaugh, a longtime favorite.

Kyle DeVan, who resigned on Friday to accept a position as an assistant coach with the Chicago Bears of the NFL, is replaced by Cavanaugh. The news was initially reported by ESPN.

Mike Riley was Cavanaugh’s offensive line coach at Oregon State from 2005 until 2014. Cavanaugh has been employed at Oregon since early 2023, most recently as an offensive analyst.

Cavanaugh coached three All-Americans during his ten years at Oregon State: Andy Levitre, Jeremy Perry, and Isaac Seumalo.

After leaving Oregon State in 2014, Cavanaugh followed Riley to Nebraska, where he spent three years as a coach. In addition, Cavanaugh has coached offensive lineman at a number of small colleges, including Syracuse, Arizona State, and Hawaii. Cavanaugh has been a collegiate coach for 37 years. He also coached the San Diego Chargers of the NFL for two years.
