Free book giveaway will honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday

As long as you were born on March 2, Dr. Seuss has a gift for you.

Last year, Dr. Seuss Enterprises gave away 10,000 free copies of The Cat in the Hat to infants born on March 2. This year, the offer will be extended to everyone born on that day. That day in 1904 marked the birth of Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Geisel. Decades after his death in 1991, his works, including Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat, are still widely read.

Those born on March 2nd who sign up on SeussPledge.com have the option of giving their free copy to kids in underprivileged areas or having a personalized book mailed to them.

Because the more you read, the more you will know, the Birthday Pledge’s extension enables us to reach a far wider audience with Dr. Seuss books. In a statement, Susan Brandt, president and CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, noted that the more you study, the more locations you’ll visit.

Random House Children’s Books, Dr. Seuss’s longtime publishing partner, will co-fund the books contributed for the pledge. A personalized note honoring the recipient’s Seussian birthday and urging them to read daily will be placed inside each book.

In addition to providing their full name, phone number, mailing address, and email address, participants must also upload documentation proving they were born on March 2.

The offer is limited to 20,000 copies and is made on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must be legal residents of one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C., and be at least eighteen years old.
