Robbery, carjackings took authorities across state lines. Portland police looking for answers

Investigators are attempting to determine whether a man who is suspected of stealing a car in Washington and driving carelessly close to Salem on Sunday is connected to a series of incidents in Portland earlier in the day.

According to police, the many offenses that occurred in Portland between 6 and 7 p.m. included one armed robbery of a company, two armed carjackings, and two attempted armed carjackings.

According to a scanner record, 20 police units went to the scene of the spate, which started near the 1700 block of Northeast 122nd Avenue.

The dates of the other crimes were not disclosed by Portland police.

However, two occurred less than a mile away from the commercial heist. This includes an attempted armed carjacking in the 2000 block of NE 119th Avenue and an armed carjacking close to Northeast 117th Avenue and Thompson Street.

The other two occurrences, an attempted armed carjacking at Northeast 36th Avenue and Morris Street and an armed carjacking in the 2500 block of Northeast Killingsworth Street, were less than two miles apart but were farther away from the initial call.

After after, a suspect car ran away to Vancouver, where it was discovered abandoned shortly after, according to the police.

Troops from the Oregon State Police were pursuing a driver who was driving carelessly on Interstate 5 close to Salem at 7:30 p.m. Shortly after the suspect in the string of offenses escaped into the region, Portland police stated that they think the white GMC pickup was stolen from Vancouver.

After locating the pickup that was allegedly involved in several hit-and-run incidents, Oregon State Police troopers tried to pull it over on southbound I-5, but the driver refused to stop. The truck collided with another car and continued to drive while troopers chased after it.

Later, the pickup struck the median barrier close to milepost 239 and came to a stop. Jeffrey Boone, 43, was the driver who ran away on foot. Troopers apprehended him after pursuing him.

Boone, a Portland native, is being held at Marion County Jail on accusations of reckless endangerment, illegal use of a vehicle, attempting to avoid or flee law enforcement, and felon in possession of a firearm. He is expected to appear in Marion County court on Tuesday afternoon.

According to spokesperson Mike Benner, the Police Bureau’s serious crimes unit is investigating the connections between the Portland crimes. Additionally, they are investigating whether Boone is connected to any of the crimes.

According to agency spokeswoman Capt. Kyle Kennedy, Oregon State Police have been in contact with Portland officials and are aware of the link.

Benner claims that none of the victims in the crimes in Portland needed to be taken to the hospital. He refused to provide more details.

Anyone with information about the crimes is asked by the police. Call [email protected] on Sunday night.
