BEND — A word that anavalanche may have buried at least one person in the Central Cascades of Oregon near a snowmobile path prompted search and rescue personnel to respond on Tuesday.
Happy Valley, located northeast of Mount Bachelor Ski Resort and west of Bend, was the scene of an overnight response, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.
The number of participants and their activities at the time of the avalanche were not disclosed by the sheriff’s office.
Around noon on Tuesday, the Central Oregon Avalanche Center posted on social media that the incident had been reported close to a snowmobile trail. When necessary, the Avalanche Center assists the search and rescue team from the sheriff’s office.
According to the post, this is an ongoing incident, and we will send information as soon as possible.
There is currently a significant risk of avalanche in the Central Cascades. The Avalanche Center predicts that it will be a three on a scale of zero to five.
