Hawthorne Bridge closed during Portland commute

As authorities respond to reports of a person in difficulty, the Hawthorne Bridge is closed Thursday during Portland’s rush hour commute.

Both sides of the bridge are blocked by Portland police cruisers. A scanner record indicates that at least five Portland Fire & Rescue units are on the scene.

According to the Fire Bureau, traffic is being rerouted and firefighters are on the site blocking the road.

According to the bureau’s social media post, the individual scaled the bridge to a height of 150 feet above the decking and proceeded down stairs towards the roadway’s level.

There was no other information available at the moment.
