As authorities respond to reports of a person in difficulty, the Hawthorne Bridge is closed Thursday during Portland’s rush hour commute.
Both sides of the bridge are blocked by Portland police cruisers. Traffic is being rerouted, and a scanner record indicates that at least five Portland Fire & Rescue units are on the site.
On social media, the Fire Bureau reported that the individual had scaled a bridge tower 150 feet above the decking and was making their way down a staircase in the direction of the road.
There was no other information available at the moment.
