A couple from Sunriver and their 33-year-old daughter are being sought by police on suspicion of child abuse.
On Tuesday, a grand jury indicted Sarah Marie Session and her parents, Gary and Paula Hardenburg, ages 65 and 60, on a number of offenses, including second-degree attempted murder for Session.
The indictment claims that between June 1, 2023, and February 6, 2024, Session denied the child food and medical attention, struck the child with curtain rods and a doorstopper, and made the youngster consume vomit.
According to court documents, she did not express regret for the crimes.
According to court documents, the claimed victim was a child under the age of ten who was in Session’s custody.
Session was a credentialed teacher with three children, according to the records, including a stepchild from her marriage to her spouse, whom she filed for divorce from in 2022.
According to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, a thorough investigation of the family was conducted before the indictment.
Sheriff’s officials further stated that the accused seem to be avoiding the police.
Of the 28 charges, 19 are against Session, who has received specialized training and instruction in childcare. Court documents reveal that she was charged with first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, five instances of third-degree assault, eight counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment, and two acts of coercion in addition to the second-degree attempted murder allegation.
In addition to tampering with physical evidence, Gary Hardenburg is charged with first and second-degree criminal maltreatment and evidence tampering; Paula Hardenburg, her mother, is charged with second-degree assault and first and second-degree criminal abuse of the child.
