Multnomah County announces likely reductions in homeless services, asks other governments for help

The county homeless services department is facing a potentially disastrous budget deficit in the upcoming fiscal year, which starts on July 1, Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson said Friday.

According to Vega Pederson, among other service cuts, the deficit may compel the early closure of two homeless shelters, terminate the city’s job program for the homeless, and impede the expansion of its permanent supportive housing program.
