2 pedestrians die on Oregon highways in separate crashes over the weekend

William Donald Zehdner, 63, of Brookings, was struck by a Ford F150 driver on Saturday at 10:49 p.m. while he was walking in the line of traffic on U.S. 101 close to milepost 359 in Curry County.

After being brought to a nearby medical room, Zehdner was pronounced deceased. According to state police, Gerald Eugene Stewart, 37, of Crescent City, California, was the truck’s driver and he was unharmed.

Gary Dale Obert, 54, of Eugene, was struck by an Acura MDX driver at 8:28 p.m. on Sunday while he was walking on Oregon 99 close to milepost 3 in Lane County.

At the scene, Obert was pronounced deceased. According to state police, the Acura’s driver, Jaidene Raie Torgison, 18, of Creswell, and his male passenger, 17, were unharmed.
