Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Portland area

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued Monday afternoon by the Portland National Weather Service for a portion of the Portland region.

The weather agency warned that trees, siding, and roofs could sustain damage.Power outages and downed trees are probable.

Up to 60 mph wind gusts were predicted.

At 5 p.m., the warning is scheduled to end.

Through Tuesday morning, wind advisories are already in effect for a large portion of northwest Oregon.

Approximately 25,000 Portland General Electric customers were without power as of late Monday afternoon. In Portland, more than 3,000 Pacifc Power customers were also without electricity.

A tree fell on a University of Oregon student on campus Monday morning, according to the Eugene Register-Guard. The extent of the student’s injuries was unknown today afternoon, but they were sent to a nearby hospital.
