The Portland Trail Blazers will meet the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night to continue their run of games against teams who have nothing left to play.
Wins on Saturday over Charlotte (14–43) and Monday against Utah (14–43) marked the start of this run.
On Friday, the Blazers visit Brooklyn (21-36). With seven straight victories, the Nets, who are now in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, are one game behind Chicago, who are in 10th place. Thus, it’s possible that the Nets believe they have a purpose.
Back to the Blazers, though. In the Western Conference, they are four points behind Sacramento (29–28) for tenth place. On Wednesday, the Kings visit the Jazz (14–43).
The Blazers’ performance at Washington is hard to predict. They defeated Charlotte (14-43) 141-88 at home on Saturday, but they barely survived to defeat Utah (114-112), who are bottom in the West, on Monday.
The NBA’s poorest record is that of the Wizards (10-47). They ended a six-game losing streak on Monday by defeating Brooklyn.
Washington is not very good at anything. They are ranked 29th in terms of defensive rating (118.1) and last in terms of offensive rating (105.5).
Jordan Poole’s shooting seems to be the key to the Wizards’ chances of winning every game. Poole fired 44.5% from three-point range in ten victories. His shooting percentage is 34.8% in 40 losses. In Monday’s victory over the Nets, he scored 26 points and made 5 of 8 long-range attempts.
Forecast: The Blazers have no justification for losing.
