Portland HUD layoffs would slow Oregon housing production and oversight, former NW leader says

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Portland field office may be severely impacted by severe staff reductions, which would limit Oregon’s attempts to construct affordable housing and lessen expenditure monitoring.

The agency may decrease its nationwide headcount by more than 4,000, or about half, according to documents outlining potential worker cuts that were originally published by The Associated Press and later examined by The Oregonian/OregonLive. The results should not be interpreted as final, an agency official told the AP last week.
