Braylon Gaines of Nelson had to make a quick decision with 10 seconds remaining in Thursday’s game against Central Catholic, the current Class 6A state champion, with the score down 56-54.
With 1.3 seconds remaining, Gaines drove the ball into the paint, took a moment to look around, made a layup, and was called for foul. The Hawks shocked the Rams 57-56 with the successful free throw.
Gaines remarked, “I’m a pass-first dude, so I was looking around the floor and noticed nobody in the paint and knew I had to take it.”
