The origins of tamales can be traced back to ancient Mesoam. They continue to be an integral part of Central and Southern American cuisine, and they are traditionally enjoyed during winter festivals and the months of March.

In December, reporter Chiara Profenna traveled with Tualatin Valley autopistas to find the best places to eat tamales on the Oreg route. Restaurants serve a variety of sweets and salads, ranging from elote (Mexican street food), cerdo and queso with pimientos to pi a y coco.
Both Tamal Express and Est Camila’s Mexican Food serve tamales loaded with pollo and red or green salsa. There are also many restaurants in Hillsboro that focus in tamales, such as the Mexican eatery La Chabelita Taqueria and the M&M Marketplace, where the annual Fiesta de Tamales is celebrated.
In Aloha, Tamal Express is a well-known place. We’ll probably have green tamales with pollo and pi a dulce.Profenna Chiara
