In the ongoing Title IX case filed by current and past members of the University of Oregon’s varsity beach volleyball and club rowing teams, a federal court has put a halt to the discovery phase.
After hearing three requests to dismiss certain elements of the complaint on Wednesday, U.S. District Court Judge Michael McShane, who earlier this month denied a motion to stop discovery, changed his mind.
According to court documents, the motions, which UO filed in July, are being considered under advisement until McShane renders a decision, which should happen in a few weeks.
In November, the players’ lawyers responded to those motions. Following McShane’s decision in January to allow the athletes’ lawyers to communicate with UO coaches and non-management personnel, UO responded to their comments in a series of documents.
