When police attempted to apprehend a guy who allegedly used a knife to rob a Walmart in Battleground on Friday, the suspect reportedly locked himself in a car.
According to a municipal statement, Raymond Baca, 35, is charged with first-degree robbery for allegedly stealing approximately $1,500 worth of goods from a Walmart located in the 1200 block of Southwest 15th Avenue at approximately 1:30 p.m.
According to the statement, Baca allegedly threatened the store staff by brandishing a knife and making threatening gestures when they approached him.
When police came, they discovered Baca in a van at a nearby apartment complex with the assistance of witnesses. According to sources, cops worked out a secure way to take Baca into custody after he temporarily locked himself in the van.
Although there were three more individuals in the van, they were all recognized and let go right away.
A parole violation warrant for Baca’s involvement in a Portland robbery attempt was also still pending.
Five counts of second-degree robbery and one count of first-degree robbery in 2010 are among his prior convictions; a number of those charges are related to an incident in which he robbed a 71-year-old man at gunpoint using what turned out to be a pellet gun before the man was disarmed and assaulted by a crowd.
