According to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, a Dorena man passed away on Thursday while working on a logging operation in a remote region east of Sweet Home.
A call for an emergency rescue in the forest close to Canyon Creek Road was received by the sheriff’s office shortly after 3 p.m., according to the statement. Members of the logging crew were attempting to transport 32-year-old Christopher Butler to a medical facility when deputies and police arrived. According to the sheriff’s office, Butler passed away before reaching the hospital due to his deadly injuries.
According to the news release, deputies and the Oregon Safety and Health Administration are looking into what caused the mishap. They had no suspicions of foul play or equipment failures as of Friday.
