A 35-year-old man passed away at the Multnomah County Detention Center last week after collapsing, and detectives are looking into the incident.
According to a statement from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Dominique Ware received emergency life-saving treatment from staff at the downtown Portland jail at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, before being transported to a hospital, where he passed away the following day.
U.S. Marshals arrested Ware on Wednesday; his last known residence was in Washington state. According to sheriff’s officials, a court ordered his release on Thursday, just before his medical emergency.
It is unclear from the records at hand why Ware was taken into custody.
Together with the medical examiner’s office, sheriff’s investigators are investigating the cause of death.
