Morgan Weaver, 2 other Portland Thorns players to miss 2025 season

Following recent weeks of right knee injuries, Portland Thorns players Morgan Weaver, Nicole Payne, and Marie Mller will not play in the 2025 NWSL season.

All three players have been added to the league’s season-ending injured list, the Thorns confirmed Wednesday.

Weaver, 27, suffered an injury to the same knee that required surgery in May 2024 last month. Weaver stated in an Instagram post on Wednesday that the knee never completely recovered from the procedure.

Weaver wrote, “I will be resuming my meniscus rehabilitation.” Having saying that, I will continue to back Portland to the very end! I’m not finished yet, and I can’t wait to return and take home another title!

During the Thorns’ preseason game against Angel City FC on February 16 at the Coachella Valley Invitational, 24-year-old defender Payne suffered an ACL injury in her right knee.

Mller, 24, suffered an injury to her right ACL on February 19 while training with the German women’s national team.

The Thorns will play the Kansas City Current on the road on March 15 to kick off the 2025 NWSL season.
