In yet another doubleheader victory, Oregon softball maintained its supremacy over a tremendously outmatched opposition.
Rylee McCoy went 3 for 3 with three RBIs in a 9-1 victory in six innings against Weber State on Friday afternoon at the Littlewood Classic in Tempe, while Taylour Spencer pitched five hitless innings in the No. 21 Ducks’ 9-0 victory over North Dakota.
Kai Luschar stole two bases and drew a leadoff walk against North Dakota before scoring on a wild pitch to put Oregon (7-1) ahead.
To make it 3-0, Paige Sinicki smashed her second home run of the season in the third inning.
With a two-run home run from Stefini Maake, two runs scored on errors, a solo home run from McCoy, and an RBI double from Kaylynn Jones to end the inning, the Ducks scored six runs in the fifth.
Spencer walked one and struck out five. After leaving after four innings, she returned in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and no outs, produced a double play, and recorded a strikeout to end the game.
Weber State opened the scoring with a triple with two outs, but a string of doubles and singles from Emma Cox, Dezi Patmon, Sinicki, and McCoy gave Oregon a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first.
In the second inning, the Ducks added four more runs thanks to doubles from Macke and Patmon and a two-run single from McCoy.
Remmington Hewitt hit a two-out RBI single to trigger the run rule at the bottom of the sixth, keeping both sides scoreless.
Elise Sokolsky pitched five innings, gave up one run on two hits, and struck out six. In a perfect inning of relief, Lyndsey Grein struck out one in 1.0.
At 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in Phoenix, Oregon will play Utah Valley and Grand Canyon to close up the weekend.
