ROUND ROCK, Texas In a college baseball game on Friday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas, the No. 7 Oregon State Beavers take on the Virginia Cavaliers.
At 2:25 p.m., the first pitch is expected to begin. (The early Friday game ended later than anticipated, thus it was postponed by twenty-five minutes.)
(UPDATE: The Beavers earned a statement victory by defeating the Cavaliers 7–2.Go here for a detailed summary.)
This season’s first match between the top ten teams will take place in less than ideal conditions, with temperatures in the 30s due to an Arctic blast that struck Central Texas this week.
Due to inclement weather, the Beavers had to postpone their midweek game versus Houston by two hours and start today’s game earlier.
So far this season, Oregon State has only been slowed by the weather. Last week in Surprise, Arizona, the Beavers began 2025 with a four-game sweep, defeating Xavier twice, Indiana, and UNLV by a combined score of 48-9.
The Beavers will face their most difficult test to date, though, from Virginia, who advanced to the College World Series the previous season and was selected in the preseason to win the ACC.
After suffering an unexpected 5-4 setback to Michigan in extra innings to start the season, the Cavaliers bounced back to defeat Villanova and Rice by a combined score of 10-1, including a 7-0 shutout over Rice.
