For this spring’s boys volleyball season, school sign-ups are already closed, and it appears that team participation has significantly increased.
On Friday morning, Oregon’s boys volleyball governing board declared that 71 teams—out of 75 schools overall, since some teams are co-ops—had committed to play in the upcoming club calendar this spring.
Compared to the 52 teams that registered for the club season the previous year, this represents a 37% increase. Only roughly 30 teams played in the club season two years ago, so this is the second year in a row that sign-ups have climbed dramatically.

In October 2023, the Oregon School Activities Association announced boys’ volleyball as its first new activity. Currently being administered as a club activity, the designation enables schools to measure interest in the sport. As early as the October 2025 conference, the OSAA’s delegate assembly could vote to approve the addition of boys volleyball as a sanctioned sport after it has been an emerging activity for two years.
Before contemplating the expansion, the OSAA has stated that it is seeking at least 50 schools to play boys volleyball. However, boys’ volleyball has long since transcended that line.
On March 3, the spring practice will begin, and on March 17, the games will begin. On May 24 and 25, the boys volleyball state championships will take place.
