For the 2025 season, two important additions to Oregon State’s football support staff will earn a total of $450,000.
Danny Langsdorf, a senior offensive analyst, will earn $200,000 in 2025, while Robb Akey, the team’s special assistant to head coach Trent Bray, will get $250,000.
Langsdorf and Akey both agreed to one-year contracts. Assistant football coaches at Oregon State usually sign two-year contracts. Details of the deal were obtained by The Oregonian/OregonLive via a request for public documents.
Although they play a significant role in coaching, Akey and Langsdorf are not members of the 10-man assistant coaching staff. As Bray serves as the Beavers’ defensive coordinator, Akey, a former head coach at Idaho, will help instruct outside linebackers while supporting Bray with day-to-day head coaching responsibilities. Langsdorf, who previously served as OSU’s offensive coordinator from 2005 to 2013, will support current offensive coordinator Ryan Gunderson.
The salaries of Akey and Langsdorf are included in the $2.5 million cap on the support staff pool. Director of operations Mike McHugh ($200,000) and strength and conditioning coach Marco Candido ($300,000) are among the best paid members of the support staff.
The pay pool for assistant coaches is $4.8 million. The Beavers had budgeted $3.745 million before offensive line coach Kyle DeVan and receivers coach Kefense Hynson left for NFL positions earlier in February. The $1.02 million in combined DeVan and Hynson’s wages have been replaced by those of recent additions Pat McCann and Mike Cavanaugh. At the moment, their salaries are not disclosed.
Compared to assistant coaches, Akey and Langsdorf do not have the same contractual benefits. Neither is eligible for membership in the Corvallis Country Club or a car provided by the university. Although their contracts don’t specify a monetary value like those for assistant coaches, they do state that they might be eligible for additional pay should the Beavers advance to the postseason. If Akey or Langsdorf depart Oregon State before their contracts expire, there won’t be a buyout.
