Texas Man Accused of Stalking WNBA Star Caitlin Clark Causes Chaos in Court
INDIANAPOLIS — The Texas man accused of stalking WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark created a commotion in court on Tuesday, loudly proclaiming his guilt before a judge entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.
Michael Thomas Lewis, 55, made multiple outbursts during his first court appearance after being arrested over the weekend. Lewis faces accusations of making vulgar and threatening online statements targeting the Indiana Fever star.
Courtroom Chaos
Moments after Marion County Superior Court Judge Angela Davis called his case, Lewis shouted, “Guilty as charged!” without prompting. The outbursts didn’t stop there—he also exclaimed, “Throw me the booky!” and “I’m free! I guess you got the wrong guy!” He even complained that his name didn’t include “Jr.” in the court records.
Dressed in an orange jail jumpsuit and black sandals, Lewis was repeatedly warned by courtroom deputies to sit up straight and stop interrupting proceedings.
Charges and Allegations
Judge Davis outlined the charges against Lewis, stating he “terrorized, frightened, or threatened” Clark and caused a “reasonable fear of sexual battery.” When Lewis attempted to interject with, “Can I say something?” Judge Davis firmly replied, “Not yet.”
Mental Health and Representation
When asked if he suffers from mental illness, Lewis responded, “I need my medicines.” He gave a similar reply when asked if he needed an attorney, indicating he requires medication.
Lewis’ erratic behavior and remarks suggest potential mental health issues, which may factor into the proceedings as the case unfolds.
