A Portland man was detained by U.S. Marshals this week in Fresno, California, on suspicion of fatally stabbing a veterinarian in New Jersey in December 2024.
According to a statement from the Camden County prosecutor’s office, 27-year-old Cristian Custodio-Aquino is charged with first-degree murder for allegedly fatally stabbing 45-year-old Dr. Michael Anthony in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, on December 10.
Anthony was discovered dead at the scene by officers who arrived just after seven in the morning, according to authorities. However, authorities indicated that his suspected killer, who had been identified as Custodio-Aquino by Cherry Hill police and prosecutor’s office officials a few weeks later, was no longer there.
More than two months later, authorities located him in California, where U.S. Marshals Task Force investigators arrested him on Wednesday, according to officials. He is being held at the Fresno County Jail until he can be extradited to New Jersey.
