Portland Winterhawks

The Portland Winterhawks are on their final significant road trip of the regular season. They perform in Victoria on Friday and Saturday after playing in Kamloops on Wednesday. They only travel to Everett and Seattle after that.

Suddenly, there are just seven points separating fourth and seventh place in the Western Conference. Right now, the Winterhawks are in fifth place, which is probably the lowest they would be content with. They are two points ahead of the Tri-City Americans and the Vancouver Giants.

In their three games over the weekend, they won one of three, which was essentially what was anticipated. In a game that was somewhat closer than the result and somewhat not, they lost to Spokane 7-3 on Sunday. In the midst of the game, they had Spokane on the ropes for a time, but they were truly in control while Spokane was winning.

It is imperative that they attend to business here.

When the season began, we never imagined that Kyle Chyzowski would be playing for the University of Denver the following season.

Zakreski has scored four points in a row. Weiermair scored seven points last week and four over the weekend.

On the other hand, there is no longer any score in the lower lines. Miller has two points and McDonough has one in their last seven games. In his last ten games, Hudson Darby has not scored. Playing well in the top six, Duguay is scoreless in the fifth.

18
74-Marek Schlenker (26 – .889/26)
17 1-Ondrej t bet k (38 – .889/38)

Given that he had a.917 save % in three games the previous week, it is likely that he will start.

Kamloops Blazers

The Kamloops Blazers still have a chance to get to the Western Conference’s last playoff spot. They trail the Seattle Thunderbirds by five points and the Wenatchee Wild by three. They have important games against Seattle and Wenatchee in March, followed by three games against the struggling Kelowna Rockets near the end of the season. They will need a few upsets, like this one against Portland, to make those games meaningful.

They lost to the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-0 in their most recent game on Saturday, marking their third consecutive defeat. The bus legs might not be completely exhausted on Wednesday because it takes roughly ten hours to get from Medicine Hat to Kamloops.

With Harrison Brunicke at quarterback and Jordan Keller leading the league in power play goals, they are stronger on the power play than Portland.

19-Andrew Thomson (116 – 8/51)

27-Vit Zahejsky (34 – 10/34)
16 15-Ty Bonkowski (54 – 7/52)

By choosing not to trade Finnie at the trade deadline, they accepted a risk. They are still out of the playoffs, so it hasn’t really worked, and to make things worse, Finnie has missed the last nine games. However, he is almost ready to return, possibly even for this game.

According to Central Scouting, Behm is ranked 31st. Lafreniere is ranked 86th.

Goalies
20
35-Dylan Ernst (170 – .893/34)

With a.909 save %, Edmonstone has performed admirably in his last 12 outings. The Blazers may have discovered something. On Saturday, he halted every one of the bullpen’s twenty-five shots.
