On February 18, I came into an intriguing statement made by U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, which was covered by the Associated Press.
According to the news service, Johnson has suggested linking employment to Medicaid. According to Johnson, it’s common sense. Small actions like that have a significant impact on people’s morale and the budgeting process. Work is excellent for you, you know. Work gives you dignity.
Johnson’s final two words, “Arbeit Macht Frei,” which translates to “Work sets you free,” made me think of the motto over the main entrance at Auschwitz. Johnson completely disregards anyone receiving public assistance who are employed or looking for work. In addition to receiving SNAP and the Oregon Health Plan, my disabled daughter has been looking for work for almost two years.
This administration is proving to be a complete mess. I hope the 49.9% of voters who supported President Donald Trump can understand the damage they caused to the nation. Even they seem to be beginning to see it.
