Readers respond: Look at past successes for better education results

(Oregon’s near-worst-in-nation education outcomes spark a reckoning on school expenditures, Feb. 9) Maybe Governor Tina Kotek and the Portland Public School board should take a look at the past. They could identify the times when graduation rates were high and student scores were at their peak, then implement the staffing and programs that were in place at the time.

However, I wouldn’t wager on that occurring. Anticipate hiring consultants, increasing spending, adding employees, and reducing standards. Regretfully, parents who truly care are abandoning public schooling.
