Readers respond: Overcome Trump with unity

Like most Democrats, I find President Donald Trump’s and his unelected, democracy-destroying oligarch Elon Musk’s head-spinning, authoritarian antics abhorrent. They aim to control our government, media, international relations, financial institutions, bodies, and even the meager pennies in our pockets, along with Musk’s teenage henchmen (Trump claims he ordered Treasury to cease minting fresh pennies, Feb. 10).

Democrats keep using terms like fascism and totalitarianism, many of which lack historical context, to speak over people’s heads while the GOP destroys democracy and Trump threatens “all hell” in Gaza. We’ve become distracted with our cerebral pursuits. We intensify culture conflicts that sow division and support Trump’s chaos agenda, rather than prioritizing children, their education, and the future of the world.

We have a powerful message: We the People, if we return to our roots of speaking truth to power and standing up for everyone, including the powerful and the weak, the working class and the retiree, of all races and ideologies. It’s easy. It has been codified. And it’s time for us to say it often, loudly, and with pride.
