At 1:32 a.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for Central Oregon that would last until 7 a.m.
“The Hwy 97 corridor south of Shaniko has seen patches of freezing fog and light snow. Since roads are currently coated with snow, visibility will be as low as a quarter mile. Because Monday’s peak temperatures were just above freezing, there was a chance that patches of patchy ice would have formed as well. The weather service advises drivers to use caution when driving in the early morning hours of today.
