Temperatures expected to rise in Portland, but snow will stay on the ground Saturday

The National Weather Service predicts that Friday night in the Portland metro region will see a combination of rain and snow showers until 10 p.m.

However, Tyler Kranz, a weather service meteorologist, stated that since the temperatures would be above freezing and the showers will be light, snow is not anticipated to stick on the ground.

There’s really nothing to be concerned about because of the continuous showers outside; in fact, he stated that they will wind down completely after around 10 p.m. this evening.

According to Kranz, a refreeze is not anticipated in the majority of areas overnight.

However, there is good news for those who still want to enjoy the snow. The snow is predicted to remain for a little while longer because temperatures in the majority of the Portland metro region remained at or slightly above freezing throughout the morning.

Three inches of snow fell at Portland International Airport over the last two days, while much more fell over the majority of the Portland and Vancouver area.

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid 30s and lower 40s about lunchtime on Saturday. According to Kranz, temperatures should be between 42 and 45 degrees by the end of the day. The snow will begin to melt at this point.

However, Kranz noted that the melting process would be gradual rather than abrupt.

When rain showers arrive on Saturday night, the melting will really gather its speed. Portlanders should anticipate sporadic rain through Monday once the showers form.

Most of Portland’s roadways are likely to be wet for drivers. The passes of the Cascade Mountains tell a different tale.

According to Kranz, people should be ready for the winter driving conditions if they intend to travel over the Cascade mountains this weekend or perhaps early next week.
