Donovan Clingan, a rookie center with the Portland Trail Blazers, became the first player to record 20 rebounds in a game since 1985.
The 7-foot-2 Clingan ended with 17 points and 20 rebounds in Wednesday night’s 132-121 loss to Denver.
Center Sam Bowie had six points and 20 rebounds in a victory over Washington on April 7, 1985, the last time a rookie for the Blazers got at least 20 rebounds in a game.
On February 15, 1985, Bowie also had 21 points and 20 rebounds in a defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Clingan scored 21 points and pulled down seven boards in Monday’s loss to the Nuggets, leaving Blazers coach Chauncey Billups delighted.
Billups told reporters at Ball Arena, “I really enjoyed these two games here for DC.” It was great, in my opinion. He has recovered to his pre-injury level of play, when he was performing at a fairly high level.
