Tuesday offers mostly dry day with Portland seeing rain by evening; high 52

Until another weather system moves into the area later this afternoon or early this evening, bringing rain and windy conditions, Tuesday promises largely dry weather.

Light rain is predicted by the National Weather Service to start this afternoon along the coast and spread into the Willamette Valley by the evening. Stronger gusts are expected along the shore, and the system will also bring some brisk winds.

Tuesday will be dry in Portland, with largely overcast skies and a high of roughly 52 degrees.

By dusk, the rain begins, and it lasts until Wednesday morning. Particularly close to the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge, the gusts are expected to gust up to 35 mph. There is a 70–80% likelihood of gusts above 35 mph at times, according to certain forecast models.

Wednesday will be windy and rainy in Portland, with a high of roughly 51 degrees, which is typical for mid-February.

Snow levels will drop from 5,000 feet in the morning to 3,500–4,000 feet in the evening for those traversing the Cascades on Wednesday. Snow accumulations of more than 6 inches are predicted to occur 40–60% of the time overnight and into Thursday morning.

Although there is a 30% chance of rain showers in the morning in Portland, the day should be overcast and otherwise dry. The high will be close to fifty-two degrees.

Although Friday is predicted to be largely dry, there is a chance of sporadic showers on Friday afternoon. The temperature will rise to roughly 55 degrees.

With highs in the mid- to upper 50s through Sunday, the extended forecast predicts more warmth into the weekend. Although Saturday appears to be dry, a fresh wet system is predicted to arrive in the area on Sunday.

The majority of the west will be warmer than usual during the final week of February and the first few days of March, according to NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center. In the Pacific Northwest, the likelihood of precipitation is higher than usual.
