Update: High surf advisory affecting Oregon Monday and Tuesday

The National Weather Service revised its high surf advisory for Oregon’s Central Coast, Clatsop County Coast, and Tillamook County Coast on Sunday at 3:03 a.m. It is in effect from Monday at 4 p.m. until Tuesday at 4 p.m.

“Hazardous surf conditions and large waves,” the meteorological agency adds. Breakers up to thirty-five feet.

“Unexpectedly, destructive waves might sweep over jetties, beaches, and other infrastructure. While watching heavy surf, people can get washed off rocks and jetties and drown. Buildings and properties along the seaside may sustain minor beach erosion. According to the weather service, “beaches and low-lying shoreline are expected to experience higher than normal water run-up.” “When there is a high surf advisory, beaches will be impacted by rip currents, sneaker waves, and beach erosion. Keep a considerable distance from the water’s edge and keep an eye out for particularly large waves. Avoid going near big logs on the beach. Logs can be readily lifted or rolled by water running up on the beach, which might kill or seriously hurt anyone in their path.
